This and that sewing

I had sewing plans for this weekend.  Due to illness on Friday and only partially well on Saturday I did not get all plans completed.

My snap setter from Amazon arrived as predicted on Tuesday, today I attached a Black Metal Snap to B5789 and it is now complete.  I took some shots of the snap and will post another when I wear the knit jacket.

The SnapSource snap setter is really a nice gadget to use when you want to add snaps to a project.  They have several sizes, colors and designs to choose from.  For this fabric I found the snap was a better closure piece than making a buttonhole.

I finally also completed an infinity scarf using the instructions from a Nancy Notions's booklet on making several styles of scarves.  This scarf was made using left over fabric from a McCall's top with color, fabric was from EOS.

And I completed making pattern adjustments to McCall's 7019.  I am making View B with View A's peplum which is not longer in the back as the other views.  I have the fabric cut out and ready to sew.

Hopefully sewing plans will be back on track soon.

Checking emails this AM, I found one from Nancy's Notions saying the red denim fabric has shipped!!!
This fabric will not be allowed to age in the fabric stash!

Obsessed

I love denim jackets.  I have made a couple in past years.  However I am obsessed with red denim jackets at the moment.  One of my favorite casual looks is this one.

I have seen several red denim fabrics; yet when I am ready to purchase some I can not find a red one that is really red like my Pinterest one on my usual fabric sites.  And then I googled red denim fabric and found one that I hope is going to be the right one.

It was on Nancy's Notions site. It is called Fire Red.  It looks like the red I love, a warm red not one with blue undertones.  Monitors can be deceiving though!

I purchased it yesterday and of course it was on back order and supposedly will be shipped this Friday.  I will be waiting patiently for it to arrive.

Top progress

I got some sewing time in yesterday off and on. For a simple top, or I should say, I thought it was going to be simple top it is proving to be a little more time consuming than I had anticipated.

Thought the fabric is lovely, and thank you to all who commented about the fabric, it is a little fiddly to sew.  The biggest challenge was the placket.  I don't sew plackets much and actually can not remember the last time I did.  The pattern instructions, IMHO, left out a step or two; Vogue truly seemed to think that everyone knows what to do to get the placket overlapped and turned perfectly.  After many looks at the illustrations, I came up with what appears to be the final step.  Let's say what I did was the final step.  The instructions have you double stitch around the edges and that made my placket look much better and held everything in place.

For the waist dart gathers, I tried out a new product to me from Nancy's Notions.  You fuse the strip to the area you want to gather and then pull the blue threads to gather.  It worked okay and I played around with it by testing on scraps to understand securing one end of the blue threads.  It says tie a knot to secure, I did but also used scotch tape to secure those ends so I could gather the fiddly fabric edge.  So one side of the waist darts completed my sewing time yesterday.  Off to finish the second one and hopefully attach everything else.

Photos and more later.

Fabric photos

I mentioned a few posts back that I had purchased some fabric and thought I would share those with you.
From Vogue Fabrics, I purchased the following pieces.  The solid is a suiting fabric and the other two pieces were swatches together with this suiting and both are knits.

This fabric I recently purchased from Nancy's Notions; it is a cotton lightweight for a blouse or top of some sort. Floral prints seem to be every where so thought I will make up a few floral garments.
