Birthday shoes

I bought this pair of shoes for my birthday the other week. I had posted that I would take photos to show; finally I did that yesterday.

I have not yet worn them. For some reason they look somewhat blue on my monitor; they are black. It is an embossed suede to look like a skin with a black patent leather heel. I did lighten the photo of the toe of the shoe so you could see the tassel. I hope to wear them soon.

Updates from Roanoke

This past week was busy 4-day work week.  I did not do much in the way of sewing during the week, though always thinking about sewing related ideas.

I did celebrate my birthday on Wednesday-January 19.  I hit the big 60!   I can hardly believe it, but I along with many of my HS classmates are starting to celebrate this accomplishment.  My birthday present to myself was to buy some fabric, only I am currently waiting for feedback on an order as some of what I wanted to purchase may no longer be available.  Have no fear, I have a lot of other alternatives.

Yesterday AM I began the pattern fitting and adjustments for the McCall's jacket pattern that I am going to sew next.  This will use up all of the black/white wool fabric.  I actually finished the adjustments before having to get ready to go to Danville to have dinner with several of our HS classmates who also had or were celebrating turning 60 as well.  Great time of good food and fellowship.  We laughed a lot, which helps burn all those calories from the food and beverages we had.

This morning, I began the cutting out process of the jacket.  I am also going to add a lining to this, again because it is wool and want an extra fabric between me and wool.  It should be an easy jacket to make.  I am going with the shorter version, mainly because that is about all the fabric I have left.

Off to fix some breakfast and then back to sewing.  More later.

Thank you for the wishes

Thank you all for the birthday wishes. The snow for my birthday was very minimal but I know many of you have had more than enough of the white staff. It basically was "spitting" here.

I did get some sewing in for the day. I sewed the front/side fronts as well as the back/side backs of my jacket. I added the faux welt pockets to the jacket front.

My DH had to have an emergency root canal yesterday afternoon so that put a little damper on the end of the day. All in all it was a nice day.

It was back to work today. We did get to stop a meeting to watch the swearing in of our new President. What a great moment! DH recorded the event so I got to see more of the event this evening. I liked what the First Lady wore; the daughters were precious. Today I feel so much better about the future and the hope for some real change.

Holiday and Birthday

Today is my birthday!!! Having a day off for a holiday and it is my birthday day is just great. I started working on the Vogue jacket yesterday and plans are to continue on that today.

We are anticipating a little snow today. When I was a small child it seemed that it always snowed on my birthday. So I was actually hoping for some snow today. It will probably be only an inch yet that is a little something.

Off to sew now!

Saturday sewing

I went shopping this afternoon at JoAnn's. They were having a sale on Vogue and McCall's pattern. (Like I don't have a gazillion now) I purchased two Vogue patterns for $3.99. I really did not have any McCall's patterns that I just had to have. I do have a list of Simplicity patterns.

I also found BUTTONS! for my jacket. Actually I found two potential sets so purchased them both. One set was very much like the ones in my stash that I wanted to use but did not have enough of. The other was a very distinctive button with unusual center; this was a shank style button. After returning home, I laid the buttons on the jacket front and decided to go with the buttons like the one in my stash.

Tomorrow is DH's birthday so took him out to dinner this evening. After returning I started sewing up my dress. It is a sheath style dress so hopefully it will not take long to make it.

Still contemplating my next garment to make. I have a knit top cut out and ready to sew. I am trying to perfect the fit of the Pamela's Perfect T-Shirt pattern on me. This would be something quit to make.

I have several fabric pieces in my sewing room waiting for their destiny.

Happy Birthday to me!

Yes today is my birthday! And I had a great day! Ate way too much sugar loaded foods today but what they heck, it was my birthday.

When I left to go to work this morning, I stopped at Starbucks and got a Cafe Mocha! Love my coffee in the mornings. When I arrived at work, upon entering the building the receptionist was smiling even more than she normally does and as I headed toward my office, I saw a sign on my door that my secretary had put up saying it was my birthday. Several staff wished a happy one.

About 30 minutes later, my secretary asked I could go to the conference room with her to show me something, several staff that work in my division were in the room and sang Happy Birthday. We then had donuts!! My favorite chocolate covered with creamy stuffing!!!! No calories here, right! There were some lovely flowers on the table and those had just been delivered and were from my DH! I had already gotten other presents from him at home prior to work so this was just a really pleasant surprise.

I had lunch with a friend and we went to the Hotel Roanoke for one of their fabulous and very tasty buffet lunches. I had a salad and crab bisque soup and banana cream pie!! Again no calories here.

Late afternoon, another division was celebrating all January birthdays so I got a piece of chocolate cake with fabulous white icing. I only ate a small portion. I am one of these people that I just as soon eat the icing and forget the cake!! So I am sure you know what small portion I ate.

I will be at CURVES first thing in the AM and will have to do more than the 30 minute program.

No dinner was necessary and DH and I had already planned to have my birthday dinner tomorrow night! Thinking about CURVES, perhaps an hour is in order.

This evening after getting home from work, I spent time in my sewing room. I made good progress on my new jacket and should finish it tomorrow. I took some photos of the jacket showing my progress and will download from camera to computer later.

My sugar high has subsided so I am going to go sit and watch TV and look through my new Chico's and Nordstrom's catalogs. Hopefully I will see something inspiring for me to copy and sew.

Later!
