Stylish Blogger Award

First, thank you Cennetta for giving me this award.  I apologize for lateness of accepting it and posting about it.  My sewing inspiration comes from many sources and particularly viewing so many other blogs and exchanging comments.  Cennetta's garments are gorgeous, fashionable and well fitting on her , DD and her customers. 

With this award I am to post 7 things about myself:

1)  I have worked in the non-profit world most all of my career which allowed me to live in several states including my home state of VA.  I have lived in Texas, California, Florida and Pennsylvania.  My favorite two states were Texas and Florida.  I hope to live in a coastal area when I retire-if I ever get to.

2) I am not a great cook but my DH and I don't starve!  I love to grill and plan to try to grill some new dishes this spring/summer/fall.

3) I have been sewing since Junior High School and got the sewing gene from my Grandmother.

4) I have been married to my DH since 1973-38 years!

5) My sewing arsenal includes a Designer SE, Janome 300, Janome Coverstitch 1000, a Babylock blind hemmer and a Babylock Embellisher.

6) I love shoes and believe a woman can never have too many!  But some days I wake up and still find I just don't have the right pair in my closet.

7)I have a nice fabric collection/stash and find a sewist can never have too much fabric!

Awards

The past two weeks I received the above awards. Maricou with La Machine a Coudre presented me with the Honest Scrap award and Sherril of Sherril's Sewing Saga presented me with the Sugar Doll award. Thank you both for thinking of me.

With both awards you are to acknowledge the person who presented you with the award and to tell 10 honest things or 10 interesting things about yourself. You are then to present the award to others and post that information here and link to their blog.

So perhaps I am cheating a little by combining the 10 things for each award, but 10 things are 10 things. I am not sure that I could come up with 20 different things. So here goes:

1- I am an only child. I mention this because one of Sherril's 10 items was that she wished she was an only child. It has its disadvantages as well as advantages.

2-Santa Claus gave me a Sony Reader for Christmas, which I love, love, love! I am currently reading 3 ebooks from it at this time ( and I only have to carry one reader vs 3 books). One of the three books is a non-fiction titled "Only Child".

3-I have been sewing since junior high school. That was a long, long time ago.

4-I currently own a sewing/embroidery machine; a stand alone embroidery machine; a serger; a coverstitch machine and a felting machine.

5-For Christmas I gave myself two presents-the bias tape maker machine from Simplicity with additional bias tape makers for the machine; a subscription to Fabric Mart Sample Cut.

6-My mother died from Alzheimer's several years ago and my father is now in an assisted living facility for same. Thus I am truly concerned for myself. I am hoping that it skips right over me.

7-I learned to sew from my grandmother.

8-I moved around quite a bit with my career and loved it as I got to learn more about various cultures and a lot more about the different areas of the United States. My favorite two states-Texas and Florida.

9-I am a terrible housekeeper and cannot believe how fast dust accumulates from one cleaning to the next.

10-I will have been married 37 years come February 2010.

Not sure if any of the above was very interesting; but all 10 items are honest items.

An Award

I normally try to keep my blog focused on sewing related postings. However, I received an award at our agency's annual event last Tuesday night. I am truly proud of my career accomplishments and to be recognized by those I work with and supervise was a great honor. Thus I decided to share this with my sewing friends as well.

I have been fortunate to work with some great people throughout my career. Most of all I believe in the work we do with people with disabilities and disadvantaging conditions. I was truly honored to have my career efforts recognized.

I am truly grateful for all of the new sewing friends that I have met through blogging. There is so much sharing and learning from everyone. Because of this sharing, my sewing skills are so much more than what they use to be. I have been willing to try new techniques and have sent emails to many asking for more information. It was always a pleasure to get a response and support.

I am most thankful to my Grandmother who was my initial sewing teacher and I am so glad I got those genes from her.

I always thankful that I am alive and well and that my DH of 36 years is still sharing life with me.

1. Liana, Sew Intriguing. I know I have said this before but worth saying again, Liana, was one sewist from PR that was instrumental in getting me started on blogging. I have always admired Liana's classy creations, love to read her pattern reviews at PR and to read her blog. She not only sews but knits as well.


2. Lisa Laree, Sew Random. Lisa was another sewist whose reviews I read at PR and she too was instrumental in getting me started on blogging. I am amazed with her sewing projects that she does for herself, her children and her church.


3. Cenneta, The Mahogany Stylist. I really like the garments Cenneta makes for herself, her daughter and niece, and her customers. They are truly "stylish" garments. I like the way she poses in her photos of herself wearing her creations. She always looks professional, polished and confident.


4. Audrey, Sew Tawdry. I love to see what she makes. She has completed some nice garments using Japanese pattern books, drafting several blouses and jackets. I think she and I are similar in shape so I like seeing what she has made and wondering if I should copy, that is the best form of flattery. Besides she is in my neck of the woods and hopefully I can meet up with her some time in the future.


5. Robin, Sewing on the Side. She is a master with My Label, a pattern software program from Bernina. She has made several garments using this program.


6. Amanda, Amanda's Sewing Adventures. I just started following Amanda's blog in the past few months. Saw some of her reviews on PR. Her talent is growing as is her wardrobe. She has made some great creations.


7. 2BSewing. Another PR member with great reviews. She always had such great success with KS patterns and so I always read her reviews. I like KS patterns but for a long time I just could not get the right size for me. I have finally gotten these patterns to fit me much better now. She also knits.


8. Nanflan (Nancy), Sew West. Numerous times I have read her blogs and found my fabrics. She has great taste! I always like to see what she is making or plans to make. Several times she has had fabric that I too own and it is always neat to see what someone else decides to create with the same fabric.
