On the Road

I have been traveling some this past week -work related.  Traveled to Asheville, NC, a four hour drive one way.  I spent the night in a very nice hotel and the business purpose of the meeting was fantastic as well.  The weather arriving and departing was just lovely.  Sunny and warm, not to hot and not too cool.  Usually when I traveled there I would make time to visit Waechters Fine Fabrics. They no longer exist as I believe I recall that the owner retired.  I would not have had time to visit there if they were open.  I think I have one or two fabrics from them still in my stash!

Today I am again traveling to NC for a family reunion with relatives from my father's side of the family.  Unfortunately with my parents divorcing I did not have the contact with my father's side of the family as much as I did with my mom's side.  So it will be good to actually meet cousins and their families that I have never met or when I did meet them they were very little.

Not much in the way of sewing this weekend.  I have some patterns ready for pin fitting and hope to squeeze in some time tomorrow.

Back from Charleston

I returned from Charleston, SC on Wednesday evening.  I enjoyed my visit but would have liked to have had a few more days to see more of the city.  I spent Tuesday AM in downtown Charleston and a lot of time walking around the City Market and visiting shops close to that area.

I saw a sign for Hancock's Fabrics but did not have time to stop and shop.  I ate some fabulous food while there; perhaps really more than I should have.

I did find a pair of shoes at a really neat shoe store that was within an air conditioned area of the city market.  It is called Charleston Shoe Company.  They are comfortable and affordable shoes. Here is a link to their website, if interested.

Here is a really blurry shot of the shoes I bought.  They are sooooo comfortable. The fabric is a stretch fabric.  Most all of their shoes are washable in the delicate cycle.

G Street

I can't believe that I am staying that close to G Street!!! I think the last visit to G Street was about three years ago. Omega, thanks for map directions. I have that plus my GPS so should be no problem. (yeah, right--I am directionally challenged) Last year I got lost going into Arlington using the GPS. I ended up going in circles for about 15 minutes. I pulled over at 15th and D Street, called the hotel and they said I was in DC. No kidding!!!! I knew that. They told me I had to get to 395. I did and found my way to the hotel. Life is an adventure!

The metro is available also. I do plan to travel to a mall-Foggy Bottom?-about three stories of shops. Can you tell I live in a small city, that does not have a Nordstroms or any other big name store?

Upcoming business trip

I am going to be traveling to DC on Sunday; I will be driving up with one of my staff. I will be in town on Monday and Tuesday attending seminar sessions. I plan to travel back home on Wednesday. I am staying at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. How far is that from G Street Fabrics in Rockville? I am thinking of going to G Street Wednesday AM and then leaving around noonish to 1:00 PM to travel back.

This is all subject to change but that is my thinking for today.

Traveling

I leave for DC this AM. I spent most of Monday evening packing and then putting the rest together this morning. I always pack sewing magazines and fiction books to take to help me get to sleep or when I get some down time. I can do this when I am driving not flying. I have not flown in over a year or two. I truly hate it these days. I was never a good flyer in the first place; now I am clueless as to what one can and cannot carry on a plane. My last few times I did fly, I was pulled to have my luggage opened and items viewed. It is simply a hassle, yet I am one to admit I want to feel secure when flying.

So since I will not be able to go into my sewing room, fondle fabric, pick up a pattern or do any of the things one normally does when going into their sewing sanctum; I will have sewing mags with me. I will access the Internet and such in between meetings on the hill and training sessions. I always want to feel like I am at home though away.

I am hoping to squeeze a side trip to G Street. I am staying on Pennsylvania Avenue so will have to determine where I am compared to G Street in Rockville. Those little GPS units do come in handy if one finds time. I have to admit my last trip to DC using a GPS unit, I found myself lost and in DC at 12th &D and I was suppose to be in Arlington. Go figure!!!
