Sunday Sewing

I mentioned in an earlier post that I was going to participate in the Pattern Review T-shirt contest. I pulled out from my pattern stash a raglan sleeve T-shirt pattern by Textile Studio called the Santa Monica T. It appeared that I had not used  this pattern since 2004, or at least made notes to the pattern in 2004.

I used a cotton knit fabric from my fabric stash and added 1 inch side seems as I am sure there have been some body changes since 2004.  I now need to thread the serger and sewing machine. This will be pretty much all that I will complete for today. Next up firing up the grill for Sunday dinner. Monday is back to work day.

Sewing Update 8-4-13

I finished the New Look pattern.  I had planned to take photos of my wearing it; DH was in a hurry yesterday to get and back home so will have to wait for later.  Let me say that I love the fit of this pattern and will definitely make another of this style and will also use the other style for tops as well.

I know it is hard to see the cross over of this top and when hanging it looks somewhat droopy; when wearing all of this pulls together very nicely.  There is no neckline gaping and for me it is a more flattering look.

 The ruching of the sleeves adds a nice touch to this top.  I used clear elastic; pattern instructions for this is easy peasy!

The flowers are like cut out pieces of knit and the black background is a mesh type knit.  I was very pleased at how well this sewed up.  The anticipated issues of not sewing well, edges curling etc. did not happen.  Yeah.

Last night I was going through dress patterns to decide which to use to make a dress from this.
I decided on two patterns, one a Burda pattern from stash and the other was a new Butterick pattern.  This AM I cut around the pattern pieces to make the Burda pattern and then changed my mind.  Some time wasted; yet I just was not feeling the love for it.

So I plan to sew up this pattern.  Fitting adjustments will only involve bodice pieces; the Burda was going to involve more than I was willing to bargain for at this time.

My next project-New Look 6150

Here is a quick glimpse of my next project.  The fabric is one that I have had for a very long time. I purchased it from Textile Studio when they had their pattern and fabric website.    I think this was one of my last purchases from them before they closed down their site and business.  It is a nice knit that is a cut-out knit fabric with mesh backing.  Because this top will be a cross over in the front, I don't plan to line the front piece.  I will monitor the back to see how "see through" it will be.

The pattern has been adjusted for fit and hopefully I will cut out the fabric later today.

Fabric and Lining

This is the fabric and the lining for KS 3760. Fabric came from Textile Studios. I know that it is over 3 years old.

Dress is in progress-it's been cut out. I decided to underline bodice and waist insert. I will line the skirt portion as well. This is a cotton lycra fabric and lining/underlining I think will help control some of the wrinkles. This photo is of the FBA I made. I also made my usual forward shoulder adjustment (FSA) and swayback.

I need to cut out the underlining/lining fabric, set up the machines and get ready to sew.
