Hand sewing, final tweaks, and new fabric

I put it off long enough but I needed to hem the camel/black skirt.  I hand stitched the hem as I did not like the look of the blind hem using my sewing machine; the lining was stitched using sewing machine.  I also ended up having to undo the waist facing/lining from the skirts at side and center back seam as I just felt the skirt was too loose still in the waist area.  Taking an additional 3/8 seam at the waistline down about an inch, truly made the fit better.  Skirt is now ready to wear.

I also tweaked M6844 cardigan by taking a deeper seam just above and below the waistline.  Earlier this morning I stitched down the front lapels from waist to bottom edge.  The boucle knit is rather thick and the lapels did not turn back and stay as I wanted.  It also added to much bulk at the center front at my tummy and I did not find that very flattering.

I hope to take some photos of me wearing both soon.  I just was not in the mood for photo taking tonight.

I ordered some fabrics from EOS at the first of the new year.  One piece had to be reordered and I received all fabrics earlier this week.  So here's a peak.

Tomorrow the serger and sewing machine are set up for sewing the KS top.  Hopefully this will be an easy sew, only three pattern pieces.

We had a change of plans for today. (I am so grateful.) Thus I was able to fit in my Saturday AM Curves session. After that I returned home and completed the hem on my green top-ready to wear now.

I decided to take care of some UFOs. I stitched the facings to the lining on my skirt and sewed on the hook and eyes. I plan to wear the skirt and maybe the green top to work on Wednesday and then to our ASG meeting. I have not done a show and tell at one of our meetings in some time now.

I purchased some pastel colored snaps recently from Nancy's Notions. I have a Snap Setter Tool that I purchased perhaps five years ago and have never used it. Don't know why, just never did. The KS cardigan and tank top I made recently still needed buttons. But I have yet find what I wanted in my limited button universe. So I decided after seeing several similar cardigans with nice snaps that I would try this. The pastel snaps are blue, green, yellow and pink. The yellow snaps are perfect for this. I practiced on a knit piece of fabric with binding tape sewn on it to replicate my cardigan. The snap setter worked perfectly on the test.

I had to put aside my sewing to get ready to go out shopping and dining with DH so hope to attach snaps to the garment tonight. That will complete my UFOs for now.

I will start on the KS tri-color dress next. I have already planned my next two garments and will show case the fabric and my selections soon.

UFO's

First I want to thank both of the Linda's who left a response regarding second bad karma dress! I know what the issues are now for this dress. One Linda, suggested using FFRP's FBA for princess dresses. That might be the right thing to do. I know one of the issues in reviewing the altered front pieces is that I did not clearly matching up the adjustments on each piece thus part of the wonky bust fitting. The other thing is that I need more FBA than what I did originally. I should have make 2.5 inch FBA instead of 2. That 1/2 inch probably would have help along with the proper alignment of both pieces.

Instead of starting a new project at this time, I decided to complete some UFO's. One was a dress I made last year that was just to full from the back waistline down. I basted deeper seams earlier in the week for this dress and today I stitched them down and removed the previous stitches to press the new seams.

I made a jacket and a dress late spring and had not sewn the hem in the dress or the lining. I needed to attach the lining to the zipper and back split. So I did that today also. I also put up some fabrics that were in my sewing room that I know I will not be sewing them any time soon.

I also went through some of my dress patterns as I want to sew up another polka dot fabric. This dots are large and of varying colors. It is a stretch woven, perhaps stretch cotton that I purchased from Textile Studios, perhaps two years ago. I think it will make a nice transitional piece; I just need to find the right pattern. When I purchased it I thought sheath style dress, and I have to admit I keep leaning toward that. I think it will showcase the dots well.

The rest of the day I fought with a headache. I keep getting them and seem to be coming more frequently. Feeling better now.
