Wearing the Nova Raglan

As I noted in my last post, today DH had to go to a doctor's appointment and I finally got to wear my new Nova Raglan shirt.  I was inspired to make this top because of a review from Maria (MVi4) on Pattern Review.

My print fabric was purchased from EmmaOneSock in 2015. I would pull it out and think about what I wanted to use and put it back to sew some other fabric. After seeing Maria's version, it hit me that I have had the perfect fabric for this pattern's front bodice and that I had a fabric in the purple color range that would blend with it.

It took me much longer to complete than it would normally do because my sewjo has come and gone a lot. My sister-in-law's husband and she contracted Covid 19. She was asymptomatic and he kept getting worse. He had to be taken to the hospital via EMT. He has been in the hospital for over 3 weeks now and on a ventilator. It appeared twice that she was going to lose him.  Yesterday they did a tracheotomy and today he has made 50% improvement. I continue to pray that he will recover; she lost her daughter last year on Christmas eve.

For several days I have been working on this top, making some tweaks to fit. I am comfortable with the finished top. The back is a little fuller than I expected even after taking deeper seams from underarms to the bottom. Yet it feels comfortable with no cling.

I started with a 14-16 size and finally realized that I do not need the 16 size with this pattern line. My next top, also a Sinclair pattern is a size 14 with only 16 at the bust area tapering back to 14.

Here are some photos of me wearing the top. I had issues with my camera and camera stand. With one front view photo, I cut off the top of my head in the picture.  But was the best view of the front.

Today's weather was perfect wearing and it definitely passed the wearability test.

Starting on the Sinclair Calypso tomorrow. Fabric is all cut out and once machines are set up, will sew. It feels good to have my sewjo back.

  2. Another beautiful EOS fabric. I think it is great that you were able to use it in a top you can wear now. It is so pretty.

    1. Thanks, Audrey. It has been chilly lately so should get more wear out of it.
