I am not an avid user of Instagram. I have been using it off and on; I do see other bloggers using it. In the past several weeks I have gone to Instagram and I found several postings of photos of people that were pretty risqué to be subtle. Truly some were porn videos. I then noticed that on my account I was following a lot of people that I never chose to follow.
I then went through and started un-following numerous individuals. Yet each time I went back I find I am following people that I never chose to follow and I go through the process again. I have attempted to communicate with Instagram about the situation and never get any feedback or response from them.
I am assuming that my account has either been hacked or perhaps because some people are following me I am then following some of their followers. I hope that made sense. So for those of you who use Instagram on a regular basis, are you seeing the same issue? If not, how do you control this? Should I delete my account and start over? I truly appreciate your feedback. Please leave a comment. Or you can send me an email at lwl1951 at gmail dot com. Thanks for your assistance.

Sounds like you got hacked. I would try changing my password and see if that helps. If not I would delete the account and start over. I've never had this happen to me on Instagram but it did happen to me once on Pinterest. I changed my password and that took care of it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback. I will give that a try.
DeleteI second ShanniLoves. You definitely got hacked.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteOh Linda! That is awful! I am so sorry.
ReplyDeleteI third you getting hacked. And mirror Shanni's advice:
Change your password (remember to use something fairly complicated -- it helps if it's a little illogical).
Then unfollow all the bad accounts.
Then start a new one if needed.
I hope you don't give up on IG!
Thanks! I want to continue to use it. I am disappointed in that Instagram has not bothered to respond to me about this.
DeleteAfter you change password, etc., you could also try making your account private, so someone would have to search specifically for you or click through your button, which will put your account more off-the-radar. That is how I keep mine.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this helpful information
DeleteThat is really strange, I agree with the consensus that your account was hacked.
ReplyDeleteWhen you're following who you want, it's really a great lovely place. Especially all the sewing goodness is very inspiring! If you're on facebook and twitter, you might consider changing your passwords there, since you can link instagram to those outlets as well. You can check that in your profile on Instagram.
I have not linked either to Facebook or Twitter for the very reason that I thought it could get compromised-ha! I have changed the password and try to change passwords on various sights every so often on those I use a lot.
DeleteDefinitely change your password and make your account private. Sporadically, I will switch it to public and end up with one or two ratchet followers, but at the same time I will receive acceptable follow requests. Then back to private I go.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your feedback. I did change the password. Have not gone private yet. I have blocked some people though, they keep showing up.
DeleteYou can also block people on Instagram. I've blocked a few and found that helped also!
ReplyDeleteI have blocked some now also after I searched on how to do this.
DeleteAlso, if you linked your Instagram to your FB, please make sure your FB was not compromised either.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your feedback.
