Sew Random: Toasted, Fried AND Burnt....

Sew Random: Toasted, Fried AND Burnt....

I was reading some blogs that I had not read in awhile when I ran across the above post at Sew Random. Click on the link to read her post. I got a similar request regarding my photo of the McCall's dress on Flickr. I had to read the request twice; yes they were wanting to post it on the worst fashion trends of 2008. Heck I didn't make the dress because of any trend, I liked the style. I also chose not to respond though I did search through the person's Flickr photos. Sometimes it is best just to ignore some requests/people. I do want to acknowledge and to thank all of you who commented on my dress, giving me some constructive feedback about fit as I requested.

  1. Linda, I am angered and appalled that the same rude (and I'm trying to be polite) person/people who contacted Lisa at Sew Random contacted you. I think your choice to simply ignore their request was the right response. Those poopy-heads do not deserve a nanosecond of your time and their shockingly rude requests should not be dignified by a response. If you look in the mirror you can see how lovely your dress is, and how very pretty you look in your creation! I hope you know that I (and I'm sure many others) admire your sewing abilities. As a beginning sewer I can only hope to one day achieve the skill level you have reached. You have been, and continue to be, a source of great inspiration to me.

  2. Oh wow, that's so rude. It's a good thing you did not dignify that dumb request with a response.

I hope you know that for many of us, your work is motivation and inspiration. I like to drop by your blog and read up on your progress of your garments and learn new things. You create beautiful pieces, so forget the haters.

    Hugs,
    Lory

  3. I went back and looked at your dress and it is wonderful and looks fabulous on you. I cannot believe the audacity of people these days - when did manners go out the window? Sheesh!

  4. Not the same people, you say? Wow...I'm wondering what gives these folks the idea that they have the authority to dictate what others can and can't wear...

I did reply, mostly because I wanted no ambiguity about whether or not I would allow them to use the photo.

    Absolutely, positively, NOT. ;)

I wonder if anyone else has gotten such a request?

  5. I might add that I've looked at your photo and I can't guess at all what their notion of 'bad fashion' might be...I don't see any 'fashion faux pas' there! But, y'know, as one who has been identified as a fashion faux pas myself, maybe I'm not a credible judge?? LOL.....

  6. Ouch! I can't believe anyone would put together a list like that using people's personal photos. And then tell them that they wanted it for that purpose. I'd understand if it was clothes on celebrities or fashion designers, because they're used to having everything they do picked apart. But for a home sewer, with all of the time and emotional investment we put into our projects, that could be just crushing.

Ignoring it was definitely the right thing to do. If you're pleased with your dress, that's the most important thing.

  7. But your dress is very classic - what are they talking about?

  8. Unbelievable! What in the world are they thinking? Glad you just ignored the request.

  9. Oh my gosh! Are they blind or what?!?! You have NOT made anything that was a dud or fashion faux pas in 2008. These people need a trip to either the psychiatrist or an eye doctor.
