Life can throw you a curve!

As many of you know I was on vacation last week and my week started off well. I made a dress; I made a muslin of a HP pattern that didn't quite work but then that was the purpose of the muslin; and I started on my eyelet skirt.

My DH and I went shopping in Richmond, VA; I got a software update for my embroidery program and had lunch with two ASG friends; and had dinner with family all of this taking place between Memorial Day and this past Thursday.

On Friday, my husband felt ill and stayed home from work complaining of exhaustion, feeling tired and his right leg hurting. Saturday my computer went wonky and I took it to Circuit City's Fire Dog service and learned that it needed a new power supply which is basically what turns the computer on and makes all the components work together through "power". Got the computer back within the same day which was a plus. Sunday was get ready to go back to work day and I grilled chicken kabobs. Husband was complaining of leg hurting and shortness of breath. On Friday, he called his doctor and made an appointment for today. He continued to talk me out of taking him to emergency room since he had doctor's appointment.

Given his condition, I drove him to the doctor this morning. The doctor sent him to the hospital for tests.

He is now in ICU. They discovered numerous blood clots in his right leg and they had moved to both lungs! None in his heart! He has never had problems with blood clots. He did have AAA surgery five years ago which again was a quirky thing to find but obviously has prolonged his life. Now this. They have not at this time determined why his body produced the clots, but he is in ICU to get rid of them through medication and a medical procedure they will perform tomorrow.

My DH and I have no children. IMHO I have always thought that most childless couples develop a special and different close bond-as I say DH and I are definitely joined at the hip. This is not to say that couples with children don't have a close bond but I do think it is different when there are no children. So my best friend and I are once again going through another serious medical situation again.

So say a little prayer and send some positive thoughts my way. I know I will have my best friend home soon and I will be back to sewing again.

  1. Oh dear, Linda.
What a thing to happen. Our bodies can sabotage themselves for no known reason, but isn't that just like a man? If there is a next time, for anything, even if it does not seem serious, hit him over the head and take him to the hospital. My husband fell and broke his collar bone. He was in a great deal of pain, but it was 3 days before he would go to the doctor, and I had to call the office myself and drag him with me.
I will send lots of positive energy your way; I know you must be so worried.

  17. My thoughts and good wishes are with you too Linda.
Gosh men can be funny about doctors. Mine broke his coxic bone(excuse spelling)- the one at the base of the spine, on his first run out snowboarding a few years ago. Not only did he not go to the doctor for a week, he continued snowboarding for the weekend. All the time complaining about the pain. I made the appointment and I took him to the doctor. Again best wishes to you both. Rubydarling
