The Great Reveal!!!

FINALLY!!!!!!!

I finally finished the tunic and took the opportunity to pose for pictures after work.  I did not wear this to work, just a little too warm today for this medium weight linen/rayon fabric.  Though the weatherman says we will have fall like weather this weekend!

Without further ado:

Ruffle neck tunic from The Tunic Bible
Fabric came from a fabric store in Charlottesville; the store closed about a year or more ago.  It is a linen-rayon blend.  It was a one side border print.  I wanted to incorporate the border with the ruffle all around the neckline but simply did not have enough to make the ruffle and fit the neckline.  So I used it to one side of the neckline.

Matching border seam
I was pleased that I was able to cut and line up the border at the side seams.

With the back pattern piece, you can choose to sew using darts or not.I had to play around with the darts some.  The first darts I sewed made the back too fitted.  I reduced the darts to more of an essence of darts and that made the back too poofy in the middle, so took the darts in about half way from the original darts.  This makes the back fit better with my swayback.

Here is close up of the ruffle.  I used my ruffle foot to make the ruffles and plan to use it again.

Tunics are not something I have worn; I liked all the pictures of the tunics in the Tunic Bible (link -Amazon Affiliate).  I thought this fabric reminded me of fall so I will have one garment ready for cooler weather.

Have a nice sewing weekend!

  1. Nice Job, Miss Danville! I like the TB a lot also. Have made 3 tunics so far. Find the most difficult thing is fit. xox

  2. Well done! It looks great on you and I love that border print. I always want to purchase them, then am instantly stymied regarding best use of them. I agree it looks perfect for fall.

  3. Your tunic looks so nice in the border print and with the ruffle detail at the neckline. I never seem to remember I have a ruffling foot when I sewing ruffles. And they do such a nice job of making even ruffles.

    1. Thanks, Audrey! I have had that foot forever and never tried it until I decided to make this tunic. Not that difficult to use once I played around with it on fabric strips.

  9. It took many alterations to get The Tunic Bible pattern right for me. On the plus side, I was forced to learn a lot about pattern adjustments. I just completed my first tunic. Sigh! I'm ready for something less labor intensive now.

  11. I am built for tunics (refrigerator shaped;-) so I love seeing beautiful variations and this is one of them. I love the ruffle version so much. Was it hard to sew the ruffle into the body of the tunic? I own and the book but will use the ideas and templates to adjust my favorite Burda pattern so I don't have to start the fitting journey again.

    1. It wasn't hard to sew it to the body. The difficulty is getting the right length of fabric to ruffle and sew around the neck circumference. I actually ruffled more length than suggested to make sure I had enough. Attaching it was not difficult.
