Winter

I am not a fan of winter. I was born in winter and all my friends were born in the spring and summer. They had birthday parties outside in the back yard and there was lots of sunshine. We had hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill. My birthday party was always inside and normally it snowed. I have never been a fan of snow either. It is pretty coming down and I like it if I don't have to go out in it.

This week we now have winter. It actually snowed Monday night. Not a lot but enough to cover the yard and our vehicles. The streets were pretty bare and traveling to work the next day was not an issue. I had to travel to a business meeting late afternoon yesterday and there were snow flurries traveling back and forth.

Last night the low was 29 degrees. Brrrrrr!

The good thing about winter is sewing wool clothing. I love sewing most wool fabrics. I have plans to sew up some skirts and some ideas on wool jackets as well. I hope to cut out my lining for dress fabric tonight after dinner. Dinner is in process as I write. Though my new dress is not wool and actually pretty light weight, I am looking forward to sewing it.

Perhaps you noticed my Christmas theme background for my blog. Trying to get and stay in the Christmas spirit until it arrives.

  2. What a wonderful background, Linda!! I also don't like the cold weather. It's 9:00 p.m. here now, and it is 64 degrees, but we're expecting a cold front tomorrow morning and they say it won't get out of the 50's for the next two days. That is awful and I'm not looking forward to it. But spring is on it's way!! I'm already thinking about sewing projects for a spring wardrobe! It stays so warm around here that I don't usually sew too many wool garments, but I do have a beautiful wool paisley that will be commanding much of my attention over the long Thanksgiving weekend.

  3. It is rather warm here too, 50-ish at night, 80 in the day (TX), but love the cooler weather over the hot. When we lived in VA Beach in the early 90's, it snowed once in a crazy spring cold front, otherwise nothing. The year after we left, it snowed.

  4. Totally hear ya on the cold thing. I really don't like winter, mainly for the reason that I get cold ridiculously easily. And I also got stuck with a winter birthday! Can't console myself with wool, though, as I'm allergic.

    I like your background!

  8. I'm not a fan of winter either. So I can totally relate to how it feels. Sewing wool is great. It's pretty easy to handle and comes is so many textures and weights. Happy Holidays!
